Like many of us with the textured "fuzzy" black engine paint, I have a few places where the paint is coming off. I had the engine cases replaced under warranty many years ago, but the transmission, bevel, and other miscellaneous parts are also painted with the original factory textured finish. So I've been looking around at various paint products, and wondered if anyone has tried any that are a good match to the factory finish and durable. When tasked with re-doing my '02 motor, I opted for a satin finish non-wrinkle paint, ie; Ford engine paint. The wrinkle finishes require heat to wrinkle. Didn't want to bake my motor, or mess with trying out other options. I used rattle cans, high heat paint and primer. Not the hardest finish, but works for me. Looks great. Not sure how well this would match the texture on your black fuzzy engine, but I really love this stuff:. I used it to re-paint the aluminum lid on one of my Rizoma brake fluid tanks. For spot touchups would probably work really well The texture comes out looking sort of like leather grain, like on cameras and professional electronics from the 80s. I purchased this from Elderly partly because I know from experience that they do an excellent job of setting up new instruments and this one was not exception. They probably deserve points for selling these Recording Kings at exceptionally cheap prices. Not because I don't like what is on the banjo right now, but just to experiment a little and see what other tones the banjo is capable of making. My only complaint is the orange finish. Again I can work on that with changes to head and tinkering with the tailpiece tension IF I decide to do so. The frets were good out of the box. Fit and finish is stellar on a banjo that was at a give away price. Finish on both the wood and hardware is good. I ordered it with a heavier Scorpion bridge to give it a more mellow and it really works on it. I haven't made any changes as I am happy with the way it arrrived. Or it may make a great backup instrument or just something for variety. This particular RK deserves a ! All the hardware is of good quality. It sounds way too good for the price I paid.
