Deep in the Louisiana Bayou with cannibal rednecks in hot pursuit, Frank Castle is in a world of trouble. And if Frank thought Big Earl was a handful, wait until he gets a load of Junior, the Geautreux who makes the rest of the clan look like charm school graduates. To survive, the Punisher just might have to make peace with the cargo he was hauling down the back roads in his trunk - cargo that just got free and wants a little payback. After the end of "welcome to the Bayou" there were three supplemental stories, each two pages long. These stories became a trip down memory lane.

Punisher welcome to the bayou

Frank Castle, the Punisher, is traveling from Houston to New Orleans through a scenic bayou as he is transporting a "cargo". He stops at the nearest gas station to use the restroom where he meets four college students celebrating spring break. Once inside the station's store, he observes that something isn't right given its state of decay and neglect, the morbid decorations, and the owner himself. Once leaving and on the road, Frank notice that the co-eds should have drive by him. He then parked his car on the side of the road and wait for the co-eds. After waiting for ten minutes, he knew something is wrong. Frank drives back to the station and finds it eerily quiet and deserted. He investigates the back of the station and finds an unusual amount of junked car parts and a house in the back. Frank then meets a seductive woman. He keeps his cover as the woman makes her moves to seduce him. While observing her, Frank see through her seduction as a charade to trick unsuspecting people and as well acknowledge her that she is clearly insane. Also more troubling that given the area that is almost isolated from the general public, anyone out here can do anything without the public knowing about it. Indeed Frank's assumptions is correct as in a nearby bayou river house, the co-eds are held prisoner by the swamp's sadistic locals, who are revealed to be cannibals. The women are put into cages and the men are killed: one being hanged to his feet and eaten by General Lee, a twenty-foot long alligator, and the other being grilled and cooked for the locals' party. Meanwhile, Frank has decided he has no time to investigate as he is running late to New Orleans.

Celebrated crime novelist Victor Gischler takes on Marvel's greatest vigilante! Traveling the Louisiana back roads with something awful stored in his trunk, Frank Castle stops at a service station on the edge of the bayou Patrolling the depths of hell, the Punisher has crossed paths with plenty of unsavory characters, but nothing has prepared him for the unspeakable depravity of the Geautreauxs. Plus: Vette's little black book is a treasure chest of dark secrets. Movie stars, politicians, gangsters - they all pay to play. Tonight, she is making a house call - and the Punisher is riding shotgun. Because one of the names in that book is Carlos Ramirez, a powerful Miami drug lord who hides in an impenetrable fortress, and Vette is the Punisher's best ticket inside.

Garth Ennis , also writer of the and Punisher series, wrote issues 1—60 of the series. Also like the earlier series, Tim Bradstreet provided the covers for those issues. Continuing his run on the character, Ennis used the freedom of the MAX imprint to write more graphic and hard-edged stories than had previously been seen. With issue 61, Gregg Hurwitz replaced Ennis as writer, joining artist Laurence Campbell to do a five-issue story arc. The series explicitly does not use a floating timeline like the mainstream Marvel Universe , instead presenting a Punisher who ages in real time.
