Over the years, Spider-Man has famously had several amazing friends, even if some of his allies started out as his adversaries. One of the longest-serving allies has been the Prowler. Since then several people have worn the Prowler, but almost all of them have stolen the suit from its original creator and used it only briefly. Now, we're taking a closer look at the various people who've worn the mask and wielded the claws of the Prowler. The original Prowler, Hobie Brown, is an inventor who created a superpowered suit after being rescued by Daredevil during a confrontation with Stilt-Man. He was nearly killed by Francine Frye, the new Electro, but was saved and put in a healing pod where he was revived by Julia Carpenter. Hobie has stopped being the Prowler at the behest of his wife, Mindy, though he's recently become the Hornet, one of Peter Parker's former identities, instead.

Aaron Davis was a burglar and career criminal. His brother used to be his partner in crime. Whereas his brother reformed when he became a father, Aaron continued his criminal activities as the Prowler and became estranged from his brother. While stealing technology from Osborn Industries under orders from Roxxon , a spider genetically enhanced with the Oz formula crawled into his bag and later bit Miles Morales , granting his nephew powers and turning him into the new Spider-Man. While Davis was in Mexico settling accounts with the Scorpion , he was imprisoned. To keep it a secret, Davis murders Tinkerer and went to visit Miles. Using Miles' secret, he blackmailed his own nephew into helping him defeat Scorpion. After Scorpion was defeated by the joined forces of Spider-Man and Prowler, he tried to force Miles to continue working for him. At the climax of the battle, one of Aaron's damaged vibro-shock gauntlets exploded. The blast left Aaron severely injured.

Hobie Brown was a window washer , but he felt as though he wouldn't live up to anything special. His wife Mindy tried to convince him that he should give his ideas to his boss, but at first Hobie didn't know what difference it would make. But he eventually brought his invention ideas up to his boss, who simply laughed at him in his face and told him to get back to work. Hobie quit his job as the window washer and then went to try and invent a suit so that he could become a superhero. But he later decided to use his suit to steal stuff instead, having his alter ego Hobie Brown come with the stuff to portray himself as a hero.

Miles G. It seems he was meant to be bitten by a radioactive spider that would've turned him into the superhero Spider-Man , but the spider was teleported to EarthB by Liv Octavius and Johnathon Ohnn during their particle collider experiments. The spider instead bit that world's Miles Morales and turned him into Spider-Man, sparking off a chain of interdimensional anomalies which left Earth without a Spider-Man to protect it. At some point, Jeff died after being promoted to captain, and Miles was left to be raised by Rio and his uncle, Aaron Davis. Miles grew cold and bitter, becoming a skilled fighter and taking on a life of crime with Aaron. He donned a powerful suit of armor and became the criminal known as "The Prowler", gaining infamy across New York City.

Additionally, several other characters have used the Prowler alias and technology in the mainstream Marvel universe , including an unnamed self-titled " Second Prowler " created by Lee and Steve Ditko and medical intern Rick Lawson created by Todd DeZago and Mike Wieringo. Silva serves as the lead character of a second Prowler limited series, which ties-in with the — storyline " Dead No More: The Clone Conspiracy ". Davis was incorporated into the primary Marvel continuity following Secret Wars as a separate version operating independently from the others. Both Hobie Brown and Aaron Davis have appeared in several media adaptations outside of comics, including films, animated series, and video games. Lee liked the name but not the costume; Romita combined the name with a design that he had previously intended for a character called the Stalker that was intended for the never-published The Spectacular Spider-Man 3.
