Any input on this would be helpful. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions. I read recently on one of these boards that as long as you keep the engine stock and maintain it, they are pretty reliable. Seems to be a lot of them out there on the trails still. I'm looking at buying a 96 XLT , but have been told that the triple cylinder sleds are no good. For what it is worth I've been been riding a '95 xlt indy special rmk with psi pipes since '05 up to this yr.

Looking for reliability and comfort for my wife and kid to ride on the back, not necessarily concerned with top speed, but it would be nice if it had some if I drive it. Is it a reliable sled? Comfortable sled?
In the spring of Polaris added a key new model to its already plentiful model mix of Indys. The sled was one favored by true Polaris enthusiasts and they deemed the model year Polaris Indy Ultra a success. Knowingly or not, Polaris officials played into the hands of this cadre of true believers by dropping a newly minted three cylinder, liquid-cooled Fuji-built cc two-stroke into the old wedgie body. The sled was called the Indy Ultra and it brought together three things snowmobilers craved in the mid s — the familiar Indy chassis, a long travel suspension and a triple that could be upgraded for power and performance. And the company also knew that the Xtra Lite Triple, while popular enough with everyday riders, was not favored by those who wanted to add a bit of performance.

I was wondering what the best year for the wedge chassis Polaris XLT was, or the better years of it. I was looking through the archives and saw a little "excellence award" on the XLT SP but I don't see it on any of the others. I was also curious of how the sled handles, feels and how fast it is. I know people say that triples are smooth and fast top end but heavy, my aunt has a Indy and the thing really feels like a tank but maybe that is because it's pretty much suspensionless. I see alot of XLTs in the classifieds and there pretty cheap, can it be beat for the money?
