If yours deletes your save and won't let you save anymore then chances are you will need to replace the battery. Please Note: I take no responsibility for any damage to you, your gameboy, your game or anything else. My game and gameboy are fine and this shouldn't damage them, Just covering myself. Please note: if you have ANY type of save that loads up then this will wreck that, otherwise lets get started EDIT: quadcam24 has suggested in the comments that instead of using a screwdriver you could use fine tipped pliers to turn the security screw, this method would be easier and quicker than using a screwdriver if you could find pliers with thin enough tips. You will need: A small straight head precision screwdriver, A CR battery, I'm sure other similar batteries e.

Hi there, so after about 11 or 12 years I busted out my old gameboy collection of Poke'mon games and really wanted to play Silver Version again, since I remembered that game being the most awesome Poke'mon game ever I only played the Gen I games plus Ruby version, mind you. So I start the game up, play it for like 5 hours straight, save my game, turn it off, turn it on the next day, and am presented only with the "New Game" option. I tried starting a new game, saved right after the opening, and the same thing happened - my game won't save, period. After reading online I discovered that my cartridge battery must have died. But how can this be? My Red Version copy still saves just fine, and that was my very first gameboy game ever. I got that game new way back in and it still works like new. I guess I'm just confused why this would've happened to Silver first, since I know I put waaaaay more hours into Red than Silver. But I guess the bigger question is, how the heck am I supposed to find a new battery and then proceed to replace it with the old one?

I know that when the internal battery dies, it is impossible to save your game, but is it possible to play the game as you normally would? And also, is it possible to trade or transfer pokemon or items from your game once the internal battery has died? Pretty much, my question is, once the internal battery has died, how screwed are you? However the save will eventually be deleted and it will happen suddenly and when this happens the game will begin to delete every save file you attempt to create the moment you turn off the console. You either have to solder the new battery in after taking the old one out, or keep it stuck in using something like electrical tape. Can I transfer my pokemon to newer games? The memory holding the save requires nothing more than a trickle of power - but you're correct in that the clock ceasing to function is an indicator the battery is close to the end of its life, so should be replaced as soon as possible. However, this, unfortunately, means that a lot of people want to take advantage of that popularity and demand by creating and selling reproduction cartridges, unbeknownst to buyers. It's easy to fall prey to these scams.

The simplest method of retaining the save is to get a hold of a "Mega Memory" cartridge which will allow you to back up the saves - of course, transferring all the pokemon to Pokemon Stadium 2 will also work to preserve your pokemon.
