I worked on this without much order than whatever I felt like doing on a given day, from early January until the wee hours of the night before Manchester Comic Con at the end of July. Fortunately one of my good friends came and spent essentially an entire day with me painting everything the day before Comic Con, and I roped in my long-suffering husband to help me with a final fitting at like 2am. I started off by downloading her model from the Dota website, and throwing it into Blender. You can also warp the model itself to flatten out curved pieces to trace patterns from. For the weapons, I zoomed in until my closed fist up against the screen looked like it was the right fit against the handles, checked how big the weapon was meant to be against body height etc, and then drew around it at that size. Once I took that off, the fit was fine but rubbed against one of my ears after a while. Instead of making a boob-shaped plate which is one of the only things I dislike about her outfit , I made a standard flat-chested cuirass. It was all very super technical and precise. Unfortunately, this made the helmet very tight to the point that it gave me a severe headache. The blade is phenomenally designed and the size of it looks true to life. Patterns: I started off by downloading her model from the Dota website, and throwing it into Blender. The dragon carvings on his belt was intricately detailed along with his blade which truly stood out against the shiny orange and superbly detailed hilt. The high neck had to go pretty much straight away as it was impossible to move my head. It came out a little bright, because I used the base texture colours as the reference, rather than an in-game shot, with shaders applied. I should have taken a picture of things side-on to show the layering but it was pretty straightforward. I was at first intrigued at the prospect of making jointed sabatons, and spent several enthusiastic hours staring at medieval armour videos on Youtube and making notes.
