As in previous Souls games, patches ds3, Patches attempts to fool or otherwise deceive the player into performing various actions which will allow Patches to attempt to kill them, in the aim of 'looting' their bodies afterward. Patches can be first encountered in the Cathedral of the Deepafter taking the elevator up near the entrance to the Deacons of patches ds3 Deep boss room and opening the large double doors leading out to the rooftop mausoleum.

He will spawn once you open the main doors to the cathedral up the elevator to the left of the boss room , reload the area, and then return, if you've spoken to Siegward after killing the Fire Demon in Undead Settlement. He will trick you into crossing the bridge which he will then lower down to the giants. If you meet him again on the other side of that bridge down the stairs from Rosaria's bed chamber, he will apologize for tricking you, and if you refuse to forgive him you'll earn the prostration gesture and a rusted coin. He will then become a vendor in that spot until he moves to Firelink Shrine. An alternative method of meeting him if you first lighted Rosaria's bonfire, before opening the main gate is to buy the Tower Key and access the lift above the Firelink Shrine. He will trap you here after you open the main gate. After escaping his trap he becomes a merchant in the upper floor of Firelink Shrine.

What are the requirements to get him to appear and where does he appear? Do I to wait and talk to Siegward in the well first? Do I need any special items? Does he still appear if I meet him at the tower in Firelink first? Does killing either of the giants matter?

He will be standing next to a bridge wearing the Catarina Set , attempting to trick the player into believing that he is a knight of Catarina and that he has spotted treasure on the other side of the bridge.

When I, much later, talked to Patches after being locked in the Tower, he was selling the Catarina armour even though I never talked to Siegward in the well. Killed him and took his ashes so I wouldn't have to run up the fucking stairs to buy his shit. We have just met, afterall. Oh yes, oh, hello.
