I have a Chevrolet c 4. Took it to 2 different auto zones and a friend's repair shop. All 3 places hooked up computer and I think it was code P the report said it has a short in or to the shift solenoid. I have no problems whatsoever with it shifting. I can't tell that there's anything wrong except maybe my gas mileage seems worse. Could it be battery cable connection, low fluid, wiring? If I need to check ohms, where and which wires.

Question: I have never had any problems out of the truck. The SES light came on and I lost 1st and 4th gears. When i take off from stop its in 2nd gear and then shifts normal to 3rd, but that is it that is all the shifting it will do. Reverse is fine. Code says its a shift solenoid. I don't know where that is and how big of a job to replace. Please help Thank you. Service engine soon. Answer: P is for the shift solenoid valve. It is located on the rear portion of the valve body. Removal of the transmission pan is required to replace it, if in fact it is faulty. Some testing of that solenoid and wiring is required to determine that. This code can also be caused by a loss of voltage to the trans. Usually you will also have codes for other solenoids as well if there is a voltage loss to that connector.
