The fault code PE would be stored in your vehicle when the powertrain control module would detect a discrepancy in the evaporative emissions system leak detection reference orifice. In this condition there would be a low flow condition. The design of the EVAP system is made in such a way it can capture fuel vapours before they start escaping into the temperature. A vented reservoir which is also known as canister can be utilized by the EVAP system to store excessive vapours until the engine is being operated under the appropriate conditions so that they can be burned effectively and efficiently. A negative pressure is created by the electric vacuum pump in the EVAP system after the ignition switch has been turned off for 5 hours. The engine control module would then monitor for leaks as well as actuator malfunctions based on the EVAP pressure. You might be thinking that how would you diagnose these problems?

This diagnostic trouble code DTC is a generic code. Error PE is considered a generic code because it applies to all makes and models of vehicles. Although the specific repair steps may vary slightly depending on the model. In this case, the error indicates low flow. The fuel vapors are routed through hoses to a carbon storage canister. Later, when the engine is running, a purge control valve opens, allowing fuel vapors to be drawn in under vacuum. In some EVAP systems, an electronic leak detection pump is used to pressurize the system.
