The camshaft position sensor is an electronic device used in the engine to record the speed of the camshaft. This information is used by the engine control module ECM to control ignition and fuel injection. The camshaft position sensor monitors the camshaft for specific cylinder identification and determines the piston position. The sensor system consists of a rotating part, usually a disc, and a static part, the actual sensor. When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the cogs cause the clearance to change with the sensor. A change in the gap causes a change in the magnetic field. And a change in the magnetic field causes a change in the voltage on the sensor. When the crankshaft position sensor POS system fails.

This is one of the most frequent OBD2 trouble codes. Read the full article below to know what it means, how to fix it, and what other codes may show related to it. P indicates that on bank 2 of the engine, an electrical circuit or signal originating from camshaft position sensor A may have malfunctioned. To determine the camshaft position, which is essential for controlling fuel injection and ignition timing, a camshaft position sensor must be fitted into an engine control module ECM. The following actions are routinely taken by a mechanic to identify and validate the P code:. While the vehicle may still operate with this code, it can lead to reduced engine performance and potentially cause stalling. To prevent any future damage and ensure optimum engine performance, the issue should be dealt with as soon as possible. To solve the problem, diagnosis, and repair usually involve checking the sensor, wire, connector, and occasionally the ECM. We recommend Torque Pro. A properly running engine is essentially the precise timing of gasoline-fueled explosions. Depending on engine speed RPM and load the engine control unit ECU controls the timing and amount of fuel injection, timing of spark ignition, and in the case of engines with variable valve timing VVT , intake- and exhaust-valve timing adjustments.
