I've been riding for almost 40 years. Much of that has been on liter-class sport bikes. Last year, I "settled" for a leftover Ninja R.

DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder. Engine performance was not overlooked, either. Fuel injection is revised to improve throttle response and mid-range power, while cooling capacity was increased. The entirely new frame has a revised rigidity balance to enhance performance, as well as additional rubber mounts for the engine to decrease vibration. All-in-all, more than 40 "updates and refinements" can be found in the Ninja R. More than a pretty face with a good personality, this is a true Ninja sportbike.

With new sharper styling it has done away with the distinctive side mount rear shock for a more conventional one, it has also added a slipper clutch. The ER-6f differs slightly from the Ninja R, as it features the passenger handlebars as standard as does the ER-6n. There is also a derivative of the ER-6 called the Versys which utilizes many of the same components. In many European countries the 6n naked version has proven more popular than the ER-6f; however in other countries, such as Australia and India, the faired Ninja R has proven to be more popular than the un-faired ER-6n, becoming the most popular 'sports-tourer' in the Kawasaki lineup. Included were revised fuel injection settings that Kawasaki says improve both low-end torque and quick-revving capability. A 40mm wider radiator was selected to improve engine life, while preventing power from fading during hard use. New rubber handlebar and rear engine mounts were added, as were tweaks to the fuel tank shape, steel semi-double cradle trellis frame, and suspension settings. A D-shaped swingarm was also part of the engineered changes, as were larger 27mm piston front brakes, redesigned fairing, cowl and fender, and an all-digital instrument cluster.
