Health insurance company Vitality has pulled out from sponsoring the Netball World Cup, with little more than two weeks before the tournament begins in South Africa. A subsidiary of South Africa-based financial services firm Discovery, it was announced in February that Vitality was set to return as the title sponsor of the tournament, having previously backed the edition in the same category. The brand has a number of sponsorships across netball, including the naming rights to the England national team. Now, Discovery has now confirmed Vitality will no longer sponsor the tournament, adding that the company will focus on its partnerships with both the South African and England national teams respectively. Regrettably, following negotiations, we were unable to reach a mutually agreeable partnership. Meanwhile, UK public service broadcaster the BBC has announced it will show matches from the tournament from the second group stage onwards across all of its platforms. It is a significant blow for World Netball to have lost the title sponsor for its flagship event just weeks before the World Cup gets underway.

The league was commenced playing at the —06 season, replacing the Super Cup as the elite netball competition in England. Since the league has been sponsored by VitalityHealth and, as a result, it is also known as the Vitality Netball Superleague. Historically the league's most successful teams are Team Bath , who have won five titles, and the Mavericks , who have played in seven grand finals. In more recent times, Surrey Storm won successive titles in and and Wasps have played in three successive finals, winning two titles, between and In Manchester Thunder won their third title. Loughborough Lightning won their first title in , beating Team Bath , following this up with their second title in Source : [45].

England lost in a series in New Zealand in November. England will play a Superleague 'All Stars' team in three new fixtures introduced to netball's calendar. The event - named the Vitality Netball Legends Series - will run from January and replaces England's fixtures against Jamaica, which were postponed over coronavirus concerns. England have kept the same squad for the behind-closed-door fixtures. She said it would also give England "valuable on court time as we look towards the Birmingham Commonwealth Games". The All Stars squad will be coached by Manchester Thunder's Karen Greig and a full squad is expected to be named next week.
