I don't really have any experience with mudmotors and never owned one but was wondering if there is any way to make a mudmotor as quiet as an outboard. I've seen underwater exhaust modifications on here for surface drives. How much of a difference does this make? Is this possible on a longtail? What about ATV silencers? Could these be used in addition to an underwater exhaust? Thanks in advance. Re: silencing a mudmotor. I'd be surprised if you could get it as quiet as an OB.

I've searched the archives and haven't found any recent muffler reviews. Any opinions on what's out there? I'm reading upwards of a 4hp gain with just a muffler swap on the new 40efi. My question is, is this across the board with any performance muffler or is one better than the other? How about durability?

It's never an objective discussion. BPS offers a full line of performance stainless exhaust for large and small block Vanguard, Kohler shallow water mud motors. At least as quiet as stock possibly quieter and has a better tone. Marshmellow makes a good exhaust as well with good gains and the noise is not as bad as the voodoo. Do the Marshmellow exhaust do a good job of increased performance without much more noise? Knowing the stock 40 exhaust has no internal baffles, and knowing that engine does 47 on a dyno without an exhaust, is proof that it's restrictive beyond the aftermarket options, and is leaving power on the table.
