The World War Z book is wildly ambitious and entertaining and follows an unnamed journalist who travels the globe and interviews key figures from the war. The episodic structure of World War Z would have made it a better fit for television, but following a heated bidding war, the rights were nabbed by Brad Pitt's production company. This led to the first - and to date, only - zombie movie with a blockbuster budget, with 's World War Z overcoming reports of a messy production to become a major hit. The World War Z movie which has an extended cut fundamentally changed the premise of the novel. Instead of an unnamed journalist recounting the war years after it ended, it instead followed Pitt's UN investigator Gerry Lane as he raced around the globe to find a cure for the zombie outbreak.
