The look at the industry of publishing is interesting. In so many scenes we are hauled in to share how Chiron physically experiences his forward propulsion. At one point he switches the backpack from his front to his back, but right after that, when his mother starts struggling with him, the backpack is at his front again. Crazy credits I think that you will find that each of the glowing letters in the credits reference different blood types, with O being the most common. Because of these issues, Chiron is bullied, the slurs hurled at him which he doesn't understand beyond knowing that they are meant to be hurtful. Mahershala Ali is the favourite to walk away with the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Juan, a drug dealer who has a major impact on Chiron in his younger years. There are echos of Terrence Malick and Lynne Ramsay in Moonlight with every extreme closeup a provocation to feel and absorb. Moonlight has more in common with impressionist paintings than modern cinema. Moonlight I Maybe I just wanted more, but that doesn't necessarily mean the film is at fault. This film is told through three different points in the protagonist's life. He cooks a chef's special for Chiron, which is a Cuban dish. This feels like an insider account of growing up gay in a tough neighbourhood. I watched this In two sittings and was glad of the break. My vote is six. Hibbert as a young kid who is discovered by a local drug dealer Mahershala Ali who tries to teach him some life lesson. They may be the standouts, but all the performances, ranging from the children to the adults, are so raw and powerful; a standing ovation for the casting director is in order. As Chiron grows more self discovery and identity is formed especially sexually as Chiron discovers he's gay. He unzips his pants and shows himself to Kevin and the other boys. But, again, the screenplay is underdeveloped. To solely categorize this film as an examination of Chiron, a young African American who has to deal with being gay is accurate but inadequate. Sign In.
