Monroy, a Beaver County entrepreneur originally from Guatemala, recently opened the Latin American market along Merchant Street to bring a taste of home to a growing number of locals with Central American roots — and something new to Ambridge. I wanted to open this place for Central American people, and everybody, looking for some food. The supermarket sports fresh produce like dragon fruit, mango and lychee, an in-house butcher shop with everything from flank steak to chorizo and fresh cheeses. The supermarket is housed in a former PNC bank branch purchased, remodeled and expanded by Monroy over the course of a year. A grand opening event held Aug. Elder Vogel Jr. Rob Matzie, D, Harmony Township, Beaver County Commissioner Jack Manning and Ambridge borough leadership, all of whom congratulated Monroy on his endeavor before touring the market and sampling food truck cuisine. My grandparents came to this country as immigrants and they built a life in this town.
