Around our house we eat pizza at least once a week. Because life is short and we love our pizza and we intend to eat it. One of my greatest struggles since going completely dairy-free has been giving up my beloved veggie pie. Ya know? But, the constant feelings of discomfort it would bring made it not worth it to me. So we reassessed our weekly pizza routine and decided to start making all of our pizzas at home — one without cheese for me and one with cheese for John. Thank goodness for me there is a 1-minute, homemade alternative to parmesan cheese.

Okay all you pizza afficianados I stole this from Pinterest today and have to tell you I am so tempeted to try it out What do you think Would love your thoughts In a large bowl, combine the yeast and warm water and stir until the yeast dissolves. Add the flour, salt, honey and olive oil; stir to combine using first a wooden spoon then your hands. Let dough rest for 10 minutes. Sprinkle baking sheet with cornmeal and press dough into it to your desired thickness. Top with your toppings and bake for approximately half an hour or until crust is golden, toppings are heated through and cheese is bubbly. It should make for a good experiment if nothing else.

Easy, healthy, and 45 minutes from start to finish.

I have never really been a deep dish kind of girl. Thin crust is more my scene, obviously because I can justify more pieces and thus more toppings. Am I right? To my surprise, the response was overwhelmingly savory. So, as promised, here is a savory deep dish recipe and a sweet one is soon to follow for all my sweet tooths out there.

It will depend how close your oven rack is to the broiler, but yes, they should be roasted in minutes. Let me know how it turns out! I used a full dough recipe… whoops! I used a full dough recipe… whoops! Nicely done. Just being able to get your pizza dough ready in less time than it takes to heat the oven makes this formula worth trying. If you mix up this dough and let it rest for only ten minutes, you will be most likely be left without any real depth of flavor, most likely not the best texture and most likely the strongest "raw" flavor taste you could get out of the flour. Definitely will be making this for weekends when we get those cravings for pizza! Topped that layer with seasoned stewed tomatoes, and OMG…as good as stuffed deep dish back home in Chicago. I have never had great success with pizza in my cast iron pan, but this turned out perfect! This is definitely a keeper! Great minimalist adaptation. Enjoy your summer at home in the kitchen!
