Mechanic tells me fix is new ICM T02 which will allow proper working shift interrupt switch. My layman question: is there a more basic fix to overcome issue? If the switch grounds out the ignition via coil then why would new ICM be needed? Thanks in advance Dan. First question what is the idle rpm? If too high it will make shifting hard. Should be around rpm. Under Documents of this site you will find Mercruiser manual 24 and on page 4E-4 is the wiring diagram for you engine. View A component 5 is the switch interrupt. The not on the following page just says not used on Bravo but no mention of a different ICM nor did I see anything under section 4B ignition system saying there is different ICMs.

See the following Mercruiser Parts chart. There has been two new Shift Plate Kits developed to replace some of these switches. Please see the chart below to determine if this Shift Plate Kit will work for your specific application. For the following models that have the Shift Interrupt Switch mounted to the top of the aluminum rocker cover, an alternate location will have to be selected for mounting the replacement Shift Plate Kit. The models listed following have the Shift Interrupt Switch mounted either on the Transom Plate or on a shift plate assembly attached at the top of the inner transom plate, with the hydraulic reverse lock valve assembly. An alternate location will have to be selected for mounting the replacement Shift Plate Kit.
