CLK convertible top problem. Thread Tools. Rate Thread. Likes: Received 13 Likes on 12 Posts. The top opens perfectly with all functions completed successfully, When I close the hood, though, all systems work until the rear window is supposed to lift up so that the metal case cover can fold back into place. At this point, the operation stops completely. The rest of the operation can be done manually by releasing the pressure on the pump, liifing the rear window, replacing the metal case cover, then putting the bow window down. The rear window is then locked into place by raising and lowering the rear head restraints. Both the complete hydralic pump AND the control unit have been replaced. Neither of which makes any difference. Any thoughts and ideas would be very gratefully received. View Public Profile. Find More Posts by Mercnotworking.

Build quality is not great, for example, and, in particular, small items of cabin trim coming loose seem common. This was one of the major problems highlighted by owners in the JD Power Survey. Replacement parts are expensive, too, so be careful if your car is out of warranty. Electric gremlins have also been reported, affecting everything from the lights to the boot release, so don't buy a car unless they all work. Likewise, the seats can be problematic, so check that all the adjustments work as they should. There have also been cases of the hood mechanism needing to be replaced - a tricky and time-consuming job.

Complete the What Car? The days of the legendary high Mercedes quality are long gone, and CLK owners appear to experience a number of problems. The JD Power Survey has reported that the cars suffer from poor build in the interior, so check the trim and dashboard for problems, as replacement parts are expensive. There have also been reports of lots of rattles, small items on the engine needing replacement, and electrical gremlins. And, while the pillarless doors look good, the windows sometimes don't sit correctly, causing a higher than normal amount of wind noise at speed. Higher than expected tyre wear has also been reported, and in some cases they last less than 15, miles. So, when you look a car over, check the tread depth and the evenness of wear across the face of the tyre. And, while you're about it, check the finish on the alloy wheels, as some have suffered from peeling and discolouration problems. What Car? Star rating.

At first, two versions were available — both with four-cylinder engines, delivering horsepower kilowatts and hp kW respectively. A couple of months later, the CLK was introduced with a V6 3. If we have to give a very short answer to that question, it would be no. The CLK was definitely not the worst sports car out there, the problem is the first generation of the model delivered less than promised. And we are not talking about the range-topping AMG version, because it was super rare and expensive.
