The horror movie M3GAN was a massive box office success, especially considering its low budget, resulting in huge profits for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions. Even before M3GAN premiered, the murderous robot doll character had become a social media sensation. Further promotion of M3GAN had social media users talking about it even more. Widely released in January , the horror movie was praised for its use of horror and comedy to create a camp masterpiece. Allison Williams, best known for playing Marnie on the HBO series Girls, gave a stellar performance alongside Violet McGraw, who portrayed the young girl who befriends the robot doll. Still, compared to many other horror films, M3GAN 's budget was significantly low. These sequels are both part of well-known franchises, though, while M3GAN is the first of its series. M3GAN looked as creepy and life-like as she could, and with all the money the movie made, the filmmakers likely aren't upset with the minimal amount spent to effectively achieve their goal. M3GAN made a significant amount of money for a film that isn't part of a horror franchise. M3GAN 's numbers are impressive, and it's understandable why the movie was given a sequel so soon. If fans continue to love M3GAN , the sequel will do just as well.

Not only is M3GAN a success on its own terms, but it's also blowing many horror entries from out of the water. Last year's box office trends saw horror films dominating the charts alongside superhero tentpoles and other popcorn blockbusters, including the meta slasher sequel Scream , Jordan Peele's Nope , the twisty thriller Barbarian , and the surprise No. If M3GAN is a portent of things to come, is a good year indeed for the horror genre. The fact that the film can become such a massive hit off a completely original idea means that the franchise horror pictures that are on their way will likely experience a huge boom as well. With the film continuing to turn out stellar box office results, it's a shock that Blumhouse hasn't already announced a sequel to M3GAN. While Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have revealed their confidence in the killer doll flick's success being replicable by officially extending their partnership with the upcoming film Night Swim , M3GAN 2 's green light is still pending. Presumably, after this weekend there's no way they can ignore the fan demands and the promise of further profits, so it's more than likely that they're currently getting all their ducks in a row before making the official announcement.
