Marianne was born a child to unnamed parents of a minor noble family before her parent died when she was fourteen and she was adopted by Margrave von Edmund. Marianne bears the crest of Murice known as the crest of the beast which turned him into a beast and leading him to be purged from the records of the ten elites. Marianne was enrolled into the officers academy in the year of imperial but she grew unsocial because of the fears of her crest. Marianne has long pale blue hair that is that is held together by a hair braid with brown eyes and wears a school uniform during the academy phase and long blue dress with gold accessories during the war phase. Marianne is pessimistic and unsocial because of her past and a belief that she will either curse or inconvenience others, because of this she talks to animals and if she does speak she is always saying sorry even when things aren't her fault. Though Marianne is shy and pessimistic she is humble and caring to those she is close with and animals and post time skip becomes more optimistic and frowns on her old self for believing her life was worthless.

If recruited to the Black Eagles in Crimson Flower , Marianne will state that she has become enamored with Edelgard 's strength and charisma, and that she will fight alongside her and the professor no matter what happens. Rumors have spread across the monastery of a beast said to kill people in the middle of the night in a forest. Originally known as Maurice , it was rumored that those who bore his Crest would also transform into a hideous beast like him and kill unsuspecting people. His latest descendant, Marianne, has drawn suspicion from the uninformed masses, with a Crest scholar, in particular, approaching her and asking for her to come with him.
