Since she was a child, Mantis helped ease Ego's neurotic behavior with her powers until the Guardians came to his planet. After bonding with Drax the Destroyer , she came to care for the Guardians and then allied with them to help prevent Ego from conquering the Galaxy.

In , Mantis and the Guardians respond to a distress call and rescue Thor adrift in space. Although Mantis is able to temporarily control Thanos, he breaks free of her control when Quill learns from Nebula that Gamora died and strikes him. Shortly after, Mantis falls victim to The Blip. In , Mantis is restored to life and is brought via portal to Earth in America, where she participates in a battle against an alternative universe version of Thanos. Later, Mantis and her reunited teammates attend Stark's funeral, who had sacrificed his life to stop Thanos. They then pick Thor up from Norway and return to space.

What Mantis can do in Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special — and Mantis' powers in an Avengers: Infinity War deleted scene — suggests that the Guardian is much more powerful than viewers realize.
