In The Hallowed Halls of True Satire, no comic acts have attained the lofty heights that Manowar has reached by accident. An odd mixture of Goebellsian fascist imagery, arrested pre-teen angst and Rodgers and Hammerstein, Manowar have created an act that aims to stretch the boundaries of the absurd far beyond their breaking point. The sheer earnestness with which they fight for a cause that is not really being threatened is breathtaking. They are defenders of a faith that no one has. Protectors of a mythos so silly that it is hard to imagine that they can stand on stage for an hour and a half without breaking into fits of laughter. Yet they soldier on, without a hint of the joke that only they do not get. What can be said of a band whose claim to fame is playing at a volume so beyond the limits of what the human eardrum can handle that one would think they were part of a secret government conspiracy to infect all metal fans with tinnitus? Yet somehow, Manowar does. Even the most devout, snake-passing evangelical would chuckle at this trick. Yet somehow, Manowar does not. The case for Manowar as the greatest comedy act is easy to make. Manowar are a heavy metal band hailing from Auburn,NY. They are known as the Kings of Metal due to their album, Kings of Metal. Most known for their fantasy and mythology based lyrics regarding subjects such as heavy metal, Norse gods, War, Glory, and Honor. They have grown to be infamous due to their 'true metal' aesthetic, as expressed on songs including Metal Warriors and Warriors of the World United, and their cheesy lyrical content. Manowar was formed in New York City and released their debut album "Battle Hymns" in after signing with Liberty Records in Soon after the release of this album, they went on a tour that only lasted for a few months, opening for Ted Nugent. However, they decided to embark on a short tour of their own, which made them gain popularity in European countries. However, despite the successes of Manowar's first 5 albums, Kings of Metal was arguably their break-out album and also their most well-known album to date, with some of their most popular songs being on it, such as 'Heart of Steel', 'Hail and Kill' and the title track.

It might be all a big joke and Adams and DeMaio get a laugh as they sit in their living rooms when not touring wearing their Jets jerseys and pounding Coors Light, but somehow, I don't think that's the case. I don't like them -- I find them a bit too silly, in both subject matter and execution, but I know at least one person who is a major fan of their work.
