Forget about calling Macera's Italian Restaurant a hidden gem. After 24 years, the restaurant is out of the cozy environs below ground and no longer sharing a parking lot with the Mardi Gras Night Club. The move was not owner David Macera's idea. He was happy where he was. But it wasn't his decision. The restaurant's home for 24 years is now gone, demolished, along with the Mardi Gras, to make way for a new commercial development. A sign on the building at Reservoir Ave. The December proposed opening came and went. With all the bad luck one can have, the new Macera's opened just as the state's restaurants were shutting down in March due to the COVID pandemic. It was takeout only until fall. When I visited Macera's, they were just getting set to open for indoor dining. At the former location, Grandma's Kitchen was the name of the spot where customers ran in and out for takeout soup, sauce and freshly baked bread. Pickup for the Chicken Escarole soup and other favorites is now safely done on the porch. The flair for the seasons and holiday decorating has followed them to Reservoir Avenue.

The red gravy is perfect. Rabes mmmmm, Sabreeeet! Very good calamari! Great Lemt place. Please don't tell anyone outside Cranston about this place because then they'd go and I would have to wait for a table.

This was my first time there. The food was delicious. We ordered the ravioli, a pizza, pasta with meatballs, and it was all superb. The service was excellent. I highly recommend this place. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The soups to go are great. I do think that the cutesy holiday decor is ridiculous. I guess someone really enjoys putting out a hundred bunnies, elves, Santas , turkeys, etc. The place looks like someone bought out the entire stock of the Christmas Tree Shop… maybe
