It's been four years since the last Lords of Shadow game was released, and today marks the European launch of the long-awaited sequel. If you felt the previous game was just a little too claustrophobic, you'll be pleased to know that the new one has a much more open feel to it - so much so, in fact, that we've created a walkthrough to help you take in every last bit of it. Before you explore the different parts of this walkthrough, there are a few things worth keeping in mind. As you play the game, you'll encounter gates that appear to guard some precious loot. You'll be able to get your hands on these items, but only after you've acquired the Mist Power ability from completing the Blood Curse mission. If an area seems frustratingly out of reach, you simply need to come back after getting the Demonic Wings from the Hooded Man mission. Finally, the Dungeon Keys you'll need from time to time only occasionally drop.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is the 35th game overall in the Castlevania franchise, but is the third of the reboot that started with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 continues the reboot of the Castlevania franchise. You control Gabriel Belmont, better known as Dracula, in an effort to stop Satan and his forces from destroying the world. Ironically, Gabriel agrees to this because he's tired of his immortality, and his ulterior motive for defeating Satan is to then be put to permanent death himself. Will he save the world and gain his freedom, or will he be Satan's servant forever? CLoS 2 takes place mostly in Dracula's castle, both in the present world and centuries past, as he tries to regain his powers to be a match for Satan's hordes, not to mention his own bloodline. Dracula will also visit some modern locales during his adventure, providing for varied environments. CLoS 2 is mostly an action game. Playing as Dracula, you'll be slaughtering monsters en masse on your way to strengthening yourself and enhancing your powers. Epic boss fights provide milestones in the plot and your power. CLoS 2 often auto-saves your gameplay, so there are no save points to worry about, and the checkpoint system is generous to keep downtime to a minimum. CLoS 2 also features stealth sections, where Dracula's power is simply not enough or too dangerous to be seen. If spotted in these areas, Dracula is simply taken back to the previous checkpoint, usually with some health loss. These sections can be tricky, and our Walkthrough can help lead you through them.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is entirely a story-driven action-adventure game. There is no multiplayer mode or anything else to distract you from controlling Dracula and confronting the minions of Satan , not to mention fighting the forces of the Belmont bloodline. Checkpoints are generous, and the game auto-saves for you roughly every five minutes or sooner. The power-ups in the game are generous as well, but some can be hard to spot, and others may be unable to be reached the first time you see them. Whenever we come to any Collectables that you can get, we'll highlight them in yellow like this. Still, one problem with the streamlining of the interface is that there are no individual save slots. Different saves will be created for each user profile on your system, based on your chosen platform, but each user profile can only have one save slot.

The opening stage of Lords of Shadow 2 serves primarily to introduce you to the core combat mechanics of the game - dodging, leaping, slicing, and keeping yourself alive while under assault from all angles. That combat's changed a fair bit since the last Lords of Shadow game, and so you'll have to get used to switching between weapons for offensive and defensive perks. Things get considerably more interesting once you've mastered the basics of battling, and there are some fun set-pieces in this opening chapter too, including a crawl up the body of a deadly Titan. Before moving onto the main meat of the walkthrough, here's a quick breakdown of the different combat systems you'll need to master in pretty short order:. Each hit you make with this weapon will top up your life a little, so get ready to swap over to it if you're close to death. Switch out to the Chaos Claws and rip away at any heavy armour standing between you and your enemy's ribcage. You'll know you're using the skill properly if the armour glows red. This is an essential tactic for surviving enemy special attacks , signified by a glowing red reticule that appears just before they're put into play.

After stumbling into a fight against a rather grim-looking creature, just keep blocking until you've triggered another cut-scene. Now you'll have to slowly shuffle your way towards the family, and pick them off one by one. Once that's done, you'll get your powers back and be ready to go out on the prowl. First thing first, smash up all of the objects in the vicinity of you and the green van in order to get hold of the artwork.
