Little friends puppy island review

For anyone looking to relive the Nintendogs fad of the mids, Little Friends: Puppy Island is your game.

If you were alive back in , you may recall the short-lived, but intense fad that was the Nintendogs franchise. I remember this game being the most popular thing in school, even though, at its core, it was little more than a very expensive Tamagotchi. We were just taking care of a virtual pet, with little in terms of depth. Even though I look back and think that Nintendogs was silly, I get its appeal. Now I am playing Little Friends: Puppy Island , which is barely more than a Nintendogs clone, but one that still makes me smile. Before you say it, yes, you can pet the dog. You can pet all the dogs.

Summary: Little Friends: Puppy Island certainly has lots of adorable dogs to care for, but sadly spends way too much of its playtime having the player repetitively walk them through boring and visually unappealing areas. I myself fall into the first camp, and so I was interested in Little Friends: Puppy Island for that reason. Which of these three types of possible customers can the game satisfy? All three? Little Friends: Puppy Island sees you exploring the titular island alongside your trusty puppies through a first person view, walking them and taking care of them while slowly but surely turning the island into the perfect paradise for your little friends. The main gameplay loop goes as follows: you enter a new area, get an idea from someone for a new facility, find the right place within the area to put up said facility, assign pups to build it seemingly completely on their own, mind you , and then scour the area for helpful materials to finish the job. Canines have five stats agility, endurance, friendliness, obedience and speed that can be leveled up through training them in various ways — and in order for them to build facilities or deal with certain obstacles that block paths, they need to be appropriately leveled in one or more of those five stats. Training your dogs mostly involves walking, petting and playing fetch with them.

Little Friends: Puppy Island manages to describe its whole premise and level of depth right in its title. You are visiting an island with your puppy who, as a puppy, needs to be taken care of. Right away, you start receiving texts on your dog-themed smartphone from a person named Sam. Sam is your mysterious friend whose house you are visiting. They text you a lot and are very optimistic about every shiny little detail in life. I wish I was a Sam. I wish I had the texting speed and motivation of Sam. Within one message, Sam is convinced to change their life on a whim and offers to turn their house into a place where puppies can vacation, no questions asked. Sam even makes you a website for this new venture.
