The name Lily is a tribute to her late paternal grandmother, Lily Potter. As Harry Potter fans will know, Lily was tragically killed by Voldemort when she was only 21 years old, being torn from Harry when he was only an infant. Unlike these other namesakes, Luna Lovegood is still alive. The other names serve as a reminder of the past, whilst Luna embodies the present - making her name stand out among the others. Similarly, Luna and Ginny appeared more like acquaintances than friends throughout the movies.

Lily's best friend and later on boyfriend is Lysander Scamander. During Lily's fourth year she becomes an aunt for the first time to James' daughter Maverick Potter and she also gains a sister in-law Adelena Delacour , the same year via her other brother Albus. Lily Luna was raised in a very loving home. Her parents adored each other and their children, supporting them in all of their endeavors. Lily is described as being an extremely pretty girl. She has the typical Weasley family flaming red hair and the Potter family trait of unrully messy hair. She has a petite stature and bright blue eyes like her brother James and some of her cousins. Lily seems to have a personalilty similiar to her mother. Lily is an energetic, lively person who often enjoys watching Disney Movies with her bestfriend Lysander Scamander. Some people would sometimes consider Lily childish due to her playfulness. Lily is very indepedent and often gets annoyed at her two older brothers telling her what to do. She is very jealous when her two older brothers head off to Hogwarts with out her,displaying her eagerness and envy of them leaving her behind.

Her appearance and demeanor are very similar to her mother, Ginny Weasley, as she inherited red hair from the Weasley family. She was around the same age as her cousin brother Hugo-Granger Weasley and was best friends with him as she had an animated discussion with him about how they would go to Hogwarts and which house they would get sorted into. Interestingly, Luna is the only person alive whose name was given to the Potter children. Lily was a very well-behaved child, and it is believed that when she attended the Quidditch World Cup at Patagonian Island, Rita Skeeter had written nothing about her despite writing loads about other members of the family.
