Lensrentalsa titan in the online rental service for photo, video, audio and lighting equipment, has announced its acquisition of Lensrentals, a key competitor in the space of photographic and video equipment rentals, TechCrunch has learned lensrentals. Neither company is willing to comment on the terms of the deal, lensrentals, but a source familiar with the deal suggests this is likely an all-cash acquisition. BorrowLenses, in turn, has had an interesting journey. The company was acquired by Shutterfly about a decade ago.

This acquisition will make Lensrentals a larger resource for creatives and production teams that need to rent photo and video equipment in the United States. If you are not familiar with BorrowLenses, it is also an online marketplace for photographic and video equipment rentals. BorrowLenses has provided photo and video gear for rental, along with convenient pick-up and shipping options, and it has had more than one million orders over the last sixteen years. With operations in San Carlos, CA, BorrowLenses provided photographers and videographers with a similar range of equipment for rental as Lensrentals. There are now several companies dedicated to renting lenses and other photography gear to photographers. These companies charge you a fee for you to rent a lens for a few days or weeks and ship the lens right to your door. When you're done with the lens, you ship it back to them and pay the rental. It's a convenient system. I've never needed to rent a lens before, but since I recently switched from Canon to Nikon, I haven't yet replenished my lens lineup completely. So a client called and asked me to do a shoot that would require a super-telephoto lens. Rather than raiding my bank account, I decided to rent the lens.
