This is a list of error classes with ambiguos error messages.
This web page tries to give some help with error messages that may pop up while processing your latex file index. Now don't get scared. I cannot remember ever seeing most of these errors and I have been using TeX and LaTeX for all my documents a quarter century or so. Then again, my memory definitely does not extend over a quarter century. More like a quarter hour nowadays. And almost all the complicated errors are self-inflicted.

LaTeX Error: Suggested extra height
This error appears when L a T e X does not understand one of the commands you have used. The most common causes of such an error are simple typos. If you have misspelled it e. Otherwise just continue, and I'll forget about whatever was undefined. These errors are easily spotted by humans but can cause LaTeX to get confused as to what is being asked.

If L a T e X encounters a line-break command when it is not building a paragraph, it will generate an error. An example of this mistake is shown below:. In the above example, a line-break has been inserted with no text before it. L a T e X doesn't know what to do since it cannot break the line which doesn't exist, so it returns an error. This error can also appear if you attempt to place a line-break after a list environment as shown below. L a T e X does not see this list as a paragraph, but rather as a separate grouping of objects, and as such it does not find a line to break. Another common reason for this error to occur is if you are trying to write a list with labels using the description environment, and you would like the label to be on a line of its own. An example how a mistake would be made here is shown below:.
