Background: This study aimed to compare laparoscopic lavage and sigmoidectomy as treatment for perforated diverticulitis with purulent peritonitis during a month follow-up of the LOLA arm of the randomised LADIES trial. Outcomes were retrospectively collected up to 36 months after randomisation in addition to the prospectively gathered month follow-up. The primary outcome was the number of patients undergoing a reoperation including stoma reversals. Secondary outcomes included stoma rates, percutaneous interventions, sigmoidectomy rates after initial treatment with lavage, sigmoid carcinomas, overall morbidity, and mortality.
