I ended up spending four nights in Istanbul before heading west to Gallipoli , knocking off the major sights while eating my way through the city. The city itself was stunningly beautiful. Lots of little alleyways and coffee shops hidden amongst cobblestone streets, a deep history to explore, and a cheap and functioning public transport system to get you anywhere you needed to go.

The Turquoise Coast is absolutely gorgeous from a boat or Gulet, and the water is fantasticaly beautiful. I have never been to the beach in Turkey so know nothing about that. Istanbul is a great place to spend at least 5 days with lots to see in the old City, Sultanahmet. I would advise staying in that area rather than the bigger hotels in the new city.
