Gakushuu Asano made his debut in Assassination Classroom's Episode As the highly-skilled school president, he stood right in the way of E-Class's ascension to top all 6 subjects for the end-of-term finals. As Asano and Karma face off during the math exam they each watch at each other smugly; the latter notably lifts his chin at his opponent, a sign of superiority. Asano internally mentions his surprise at Karma being in the E-Class, and how his standing of 2nd overall place was quite impressive for a student like him. He goes on to monologue that he has no blind spots in any subject, and should be sure to win. Karma watches everyone fill out their math exam quickly and frantically with a smile. He and Asano are in the same scene in the 'gladiator fight' metaphor as the gate opens, and they both walk out into the rink with guns. When the results are finally released, Asano managed to win two out of all five subjects being Math and Japanese- but lost English, Social Studies, and Science. Surprisingly, Karma doesn't manage to get anywhere near the leaderboard, as he places in 10th place for math, and 13th overall in the school. Due to his leisurely arrogance, he cost the E-Class a tentacle because he thought he would be lucky and win again. Korosensei appears from behind him and reprimands him with his tentacles, saying that he didn't put in enough effort and should do better if he wants to succeed in the next test. The red-haired boy stalks off, embarrassed. At the same time, Asano is being admonished by his father for losing the bet between the A-Class and the E-Class, and both boys are shown with expressions of resentment and a strive to work harder.
