I'm good at using it and even better at fixing it. My question is would a Deere be a significant improvement over the Hesston? Both have just a single twine tie tube.

You can put a hole in the middle of tie arm and route a second string and then speed the arm up to compete with on tieing speed. No kicker and no ability to add net wrap. For bales a year I think a would do good enough. I run about a year through mine.
