A few years ago, Edgewater resident Jack Tabibian was vacationing in Maine and gobbling up lobster rolls with his wife, Aline, when an idea struck him: Why not open a lobster shack together in Bergen County like those on the coast of Maine? In November , the Tabibians opened their casual seafood spot, Jack's Lobster Shack, on narrow and busy River Road in Edgewater, just down the street from where the couple lives. It didn't take long for the spot to become popular. Certainly nothing like a lobster shack where you might easily feel as if you've been miraculously whisked to some funky seaside locale. A happy, beach-like feel imbues the lunch-and-dinner shack, where wooden lobster traps and old buoys hang on the walls, strings of small lights dangle from the ceiling, thick ropes and nets show up here and there, and fresh lobsters lazily move in a huge saltwater tank. Want to take one home? The Tabibians will sell lobsters to you fresh or, if you prefer, steamed. This is a second marriage for both; they have been married for nearly four years. Combined, they have three children. What the Tabibians sell most is cooked lobsters up to 4 pounds, priced according to the day's market cost and, of course, lobster rolls, both Maine style cold with a dab of mayo and Connecticut style warm with melted butter.
