It might not be quite as small anymore, but there's something to be said for how cleverly designed and integrated everything is within the NUC 13 Extreme. And make no mistake, this is a performant gaming machine. But two things to consider: one is the price, the other is the toasty CPU temp. PC Gamer's got your back Our experienced team dedicates many hours to every review, to really get to the heart of what matters most to you. Find out more about how we evaluate games and hardware. The acronym stands for Next Unit of Computing, and it was created as an attempt by Intel to completely reinvent what a computer is at its core. It's comparatively massive compared to the NUCs we've seen before. That means it's definitely smaller than your average gaming PC but a big size creep on the small form factor Hades Canyon NUC I've tried out in the past. That's partially due to its cleverly routed case, which offers ample room for a high-end graphics card, a W PSU, and the Compute Element. That's what you get with the NUC 13 Extreme: beefy gaming performance. This NUC offers up a slot for a discrete graphics card, up to a length of mm, a triple-slot, and W power demand. It's no slouch. That card is a bit of a menace when it comes to 4K gaming, delivering p easily in excess of a Hz refresh rate for the most part, and more than playable 4K frame rates. I love the NUC 13 Extreme for its unassuming and diminutive design but how it also rips through most games you throw at it. I can't find many ways to fault the NUC 13's design.
Not only does HWinfo note that the chip is thermal throttling, you can see the throttling for yourself in the benchmark results. Windows 11 Home.

Code-named "Dragon Canyon," it's basically a slightly upgraded version of last year's NUC 11 Extreme , which was notable for being the first of its kind that could fit a full-sized desktop graphics card. Given how much effort Intel put into developing a large NUC case last year, it's not too surprising that the NUC 12 Extreme shares the same 8-liter housing. It's clearly a case meant for gaming enthusiasts, with the telltale sign being the RGB LED skull up front and additional lighting underneath. Despite its small stature, the NUC's case has just about all the connectivity you'd want from a desktop. Typically, Intel sends out pre-built NUC kits for review so we can get straight to benchmarking. That meant I had to roll up my sleeves and prepare for scraped knuckles — it was PC building time! Getting into the NUC Extreme is pretty simple: You just have to remove a few screws from the rear, open up the portion of the case blocking the PCI slot screws and remove a side panel to expose its innards. But if you'd like to take that out, perhaps to upgrade to a newer model down the line, you just have to hit a latch to unlock the three large top fans, pull those back, and yank the card out like any other PCI card. You'll have to be careful when removing its antenna cables and power connectors, but it's easy enough if you've already got PC building experience. Given the delicate nature of that process, it's not something I'd recommend doing unless you absolutely have to, though.

The systems were meant to replace bulky tower desktops in applications where the physical footprint and system capabilities were significantly more than the actual requirements. The success of these UCFF systems has allowed Intel to slowly expand the product line to include a wide variety of form-factors. Systems targeting the enthusiast and professional gaming e-sports markets require the integration of a discrete GPU in the system, and this has driven the development of NUC form-factors beyond the initial UCFF push. Within a couple of quarters, they teased the NUC13 Extreme based on the recently-introduced Raptor Lake processors , with the promise of an imminent launch. Today's review takes a detailed look at the industrial design of the new NUC13 Extreme, provides some insights into the system configuration, and presents benchmark numbers encompassing a wide variety of use-cases. This Compute Element Shrike Bay is housed in a cuboidal mm x mm x mm chassis. We see a significant increase in volume from 8L to Prior to the platform analysis and overview of our review configuration, let's take a look at the pre-decided components in the above list. The processor base power is W, but the thermal design of the Compute Element as well as the chassis allows Intel to configure the processor with a PL1 of W and a PL2 of W with a tau of 28s. It can turbo up to 5.
