Skyrim's not in good shape when the Dragonborn arrives on the scene, imperials or stormcloaks. Bandits pillage the countryside, and dragons are awakening and terrorizing every hold from Windhelm to Solitude.

The question of whether one should join the Imperials or the Stormcloaks is something Skyrim players have been wrangling with ever since its release more than a decade ago. The Imperials are, of course, the faction that was nearly responsible for the player's execution. The Stormcloaks, though less bureaucratic, have taken plenty of morally-ambiguous actions too. At the end of the Civil War questline in Skyrim , players either free Skyrim from Imperial rule or re-establish the Empire's power in the Nordic province by taking out Ulfric. Though plenty of diehard fans on both sides fervently defend their chosen alliance, both Imperials and Stormcloaks have as many upsides as downsides.

In The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim , players are able to become a part of several storylines that can shape the future of Skyrim - and potentially the future of the Elder Scrolls series as a whole. One of the central stories in the game is that of the Skyrim civil war questline, which allows players to choose between supporting the Imperial faction or the Stormcloaks. But what does this choice actually mean in the context of the game's story? Both sides of the Skyrim civil war feature a unique storyline with interesting characters, so for many fans it might be worth replaying on both sides to experience the full scope of Skyrim 's story. There are also different rewards offered for siding with one faction over the other. As players listen to different viewpoints throughout the game, they may find that one side's political prospects speak more strongly to them than the alternative. Within the world of Skyrim , one of the larger immediate consequences of a Stormcloak or Imperial victory is the shift in power across Skyrim's various holds. Jarls that were supportive of the opposing faction will be replaced with loyal supporters instead. Characters such as Ulfric, Balgruuf and Maven Black Briar, many of which players may have strong opinions on, can either rise to or fall from power as a result of the civil war's conclusion.

While it's true imperials or stormcloaks Skyrim does have its High King, this position is easily contested by other Jarls, often making the seat of power in Skyrim a black hole of power struggles. Stormcloaks, is better depends on a lot of factors.

The Stormcloaks are a rebel faction led by Ulfric Stormcloak that you have the option of joining. They seek to defeat the Imperial Legion that controls most of Skyrim , end the Empire's rule over the land, and turn Skyrim into an independent country. Most of the eastern half of Skyrim is currently under Stormcloak control, with the critical Whiterun Hold in central Skyrim remaining nominally neutral but friendly to Imperial traffic as the events of Skyrim unfold. If you chose to follow Ralof to escape Helgen during the quest Unbound and then from the keep either accompany him on the road to, or leave and rejoin him in Riverwood , Ralof will invite you to join the Stormcloaks and direct you to Windhelm.

Charismatic and gifted as Ulfric might be, General Tullius gives off an aura of a venerable commander— one who has seen countless wars and won against the toughest of battles. I side with the Stormcloaks. That's mostly what happens if the Imperials win. If you do listen to little bits of info in passing about the Imperials, they're notorious for their excessive torture tactics. It really just depends on what odor offends you the most and what odor you can live with. While the Imperial Legion doesn't force players to kill Jarl Balgruuf, their leadership and important NPCs are far from the most interesting in the Elder Scrolls games. But, if the imperials win, what may look like a Thalmor victory on paper could easily be their undoing. The ranking system in the Imperial Legion is all about hard work and the title progression feels appropriate compared to the relatively unorthodox Stormcloaks.

Say what you will about the Stormcloaks and their unorthodox ways of rebellion and recruitment, they at least have enough morality to be decent human beings. The ranking system in the Imperial Legion is all about hard work and the title progression feels appropriate compared to the relatively unorthodox Stormcloaks. Kinda useful early-game, and better than anything you'd find in Ralof's house. One of those Stormcloak armor sets is bugged so it doesn't recognize it as a complete light armor set. My own stand point has varied over time.
