They tapped into a good feel for horror in the beginning and then just ditched it Theres also the sensation of about an hour thats missing from the film. The action is all over the place and they tried too hard to add movement lines, distortion from the echolocation and makes it jumbled. You can tell the studio got way too involved with the film and in a hail mary attempt to attach it to the other sony verse characters theres random ass comments and end credit scenes that not only break its own created rules in films but feels forced and out of nowhere.
