By David Robb. The guild is one of three IATSE locals with national jurisdiction and is its second largest local, with more than 8, members. We are deeply concerned, and that is why we did not take this decision at all lightly. Ultimately, our efforts will depend on the duration of a strike and how many members will be impacted — both of which are impossible to predict right now. But we assure you, the Guild leadership intends to stand with you throughout this process. Your elected Board members are working members too, and, if it comes to that point, they will be joining you in making this sacrifice for the betterment of the future of this union. A strike authorization does not necessarily mean that there will be a strike.

Over 98 percent of eligible members from 36 Locals voted to authorize a strike in the momentous contest for the union — which bargains on behalf of over , crewmembers internationally, including cinematographers, operators, grips, editors, costumers and writers assistants, among others. This strike authorization vote concerns around 60,, or about 40 percent, of those workers. Meanwhile, about 90 percent of eligible voters cast a ballot.
