Grettel hansel
Notes ; this is not the well-known tale " Hansel and Grettel "; rather it is the first half of " Brother and Sister "; in this collection "Hansel and Grettel" appears as part of a composite tale: " Roland and Maybird ", grettel hansel.
Hansel and Gretel are siblings who are abandoned in a forest and fall into the hands of a witch who lives in a bread , [3] cake , and sugar house. The witch, who has cannibalistic intentions, intends to fatten Hansel before eventually eating him. However, Gretel saves her brother by pushing the witch into her own oven, killing her, and escaping with the witch's treasure. Although Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm credited "various tales from Hesse " the region where they lived as their source, scholars have argued that the brothers heard the story in from the family of Wilhelm's friend and future wife, Dortchen Wild, and partly from other sources. Shortly after this period, close written variants like Martin Montanus' Garten Gesellschaft began to appear.

During a famine, two children are abandoned in a forest where they come upon a house made of cakes and candy. It wasn't the kind of forest that people had gone into already and cut down many of the trees and planted new ones that had grown up in their place. Anymore, this is the way it is with most forests, even deep within the woods the ancient trees have all been cut down and new ones grown in their place maybe several times over. The forest I'm talking about was called virgin forest because the trees in it had grown up with it since the forest came to exist, which was a long, long time ago. Most of the trees in the forest had never seen a man or been seen by men, that's how big this forest was. It stretched over the land like a great sea of trees. On the outskirts of the forest there lived a poor woodcutter's family, which seems a very sensible place for a woodcutter's family to live. The family consisted of a husband and wife and two children, a young boy and his older sister. The boy was called Hansel, and the girl was called Grettel. The woodcutter had always been able to make just enough money for his family to live on, but then there was a great famine in the land and many, many people had a hard time getting any food at all, including this poor woodcutter and his family.
But the children were so hungry they grettel hansel no attention, Hansel devouring a panel of apple streudel shutter, and Grettel's teeth crackling a whole section of sugar window-pane she'd broken out.
ONCE upon a time there dwelt on the outskirts of a large forest a poor woodcutter with his wife and two children; the boy was called Hansel and the girl Grettel. He had always little enough to live on, and once, when there was a great famine in the land, he couldn't even provide them with daily bread. One night, as he was tossing about in bed, full of cares and worry, he sighed and said to his wife: "What's to become of us? They won't be able to find their way home, and we shall thus be rid of them. The wild beasts would soon come and tear them to pieces.
The film is based on the German fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm , and its storyline follows Gretel and Hansel as they become lost in the forest and then stumble upon the home of a witch. In October , Orion Pictures announced the start of the film's development, with Lillis set to star. Filming took place between November and December , in Dublin , Ireland. A father takes his mortally ill baby daughter to be cured by a witch, who performs healing spells, bestowing supernatural abilities on the child in the process. As the girl grows up, the villagers come to hear her premonitions, but her wicked nature is soon revealed when she begins murdering innocent people, including her own father. The girl is then abandoned in the woods, where she lures children to their death. The scene shifts to teenage Gretel who is implied also to possess supernatural abilities and powers and her younger brother, Hansel. As their father dies, their mother sends them out to find work. Gretel is offered a housekeeping job but turns it down when the master of the house asks about her virginity.
