Geonet quakes
This application allows you to search the New Zealand earthquake catalogue using temporal, spatial, depth and magnitude constraints, build queries to request data in different formats, geonet quakes, geonet quakes show search results on an interactive map. Enter search parameters in the text boxes or select values from the default options. The search boundary can be changed by zooming or panning the map after selecting the Map Extent option.
Computers do the ceaseless job of monitoring seismic data looking for possible earthquakes. Once one has been initially detected, the location and magnitude become refined over a number of minutes as more data from further stations arrives. For smaller quakes the GeoHazard Analysts still produce verified and refined solutions, just with less time pressure! Seismic traces showing P and S arrivals. To make rapid locations of earthquakes GeoNet operates a country-wide network of seismic stations that transmit their data to central data centres and the cloud where it is then analysed by automated processes. Once an earthquake is detected and an automatic location and magnitude is determined for it, its information is released onto the Quakes part of the website.

The waveform data and GeoNet located hypocentres are freely available to the worldwide community of researchers through FDSN.
The GeoNet catalogue is where all the technical information about earthquakes is stored. Information such as location, magnitude and arrival times of seismic waves. Since the 's, earthquakes in the catalogue have been determined by instrumental records. Prior to that estimates were made from oral and written records. GeoNet uses a unique combination of numbers and letters to easily identify an earthquake. This is called the earthquake's Public ID. Knowing the earthquake's Public ID makes it quick to get detailed information about the earthquake.
Our seismic equipment is very sensitive and can detect seismic waves from earthquakes that happen far away. These distant events can cause confusion when they create false earthquakes. Ghost quakes happen when our automatic earthquake location system, which is set up to best locate New Zealand earthquakes, interprets the waves arriving from a distant earthquake and reads them as numerous closer and smaller earthquakes. We work hard to quickly fix these automatic events, but they can cause concern and confusion. When the earthquake waves arrived at seismic stations further south the automatic system didn't associate it with the 'first' earthquake because the arrival times didn't match up with what the system expected for an earthquake closer to New Zealand. Instead, it treated the waves as a separate earthquake, and created a M3.

I'm confused, the time of the earthquake is different from what I thought it was. Web feature service, returns basic earthquake parameters similar to QuakeSearch but supports more advanced searching methods such as polygons. Love the new shaking layers map overlay. Following larger earthquakes, GNS Science earthquake experts may also update shaking maps using new scientific information, and these maps can evolve significantly from the first automatically generated map. And have had today alone approx 8 unnoticeable earthquakes! Note: Multiple requests are needed to request large amount of data as the maximum number of quakes per request is limited to 20, to prevent system crash. All so list of recent shakes only shows previous day.. Information such as location, magnitude and arrival times of seismic waves. Felt Report Map. I am sick of my phone notifying me of irrelevant earthquakes as I do not feel I should get those! Edit Provide feedback View pending feedback. Compared to seismometers, these sensors are very insensitive and can record up to 4 g of ground motion without clipping - something a seismometer could never dream of! Entities are generated, updated and removed automatically with each update from the feed. The distance is available as the state of each entity, and converted to the unit kilometers or miles configured in Home Assistant.
I get some that occurred yesterday that are over my weak and above. For smaller quakes the GeoHazard Analysts still produce verified and refined solutions, just with less time pressure! The seismic stations operated by GeoNet consist of a seismometer and a digitiser. The magnitude 6. In the bottom right corner, select the Add Integration button.
