The engine braking feature is a useful add-on for customers that tow often or folks that drive down mountain grades. The feature is active when the following conditions are met: in gears , engine rpm above rpm, and foot off the accel pedal. While the engine braking is active the turbo vanes are closed more to create higher back pressure in the exhaust manifold. This makes it harder to push exhaust out and that force acts on the pistons to help slow the vehicle down. This helps to reduce the need for vehicle brakes and reduces wear on the brake hardware. The feature not active in normal driving conditions. This is a very useful feature for vehicles doing a lot of short trips to drive a bit longer when the regen needs to happen to prevent DPF plugging issues in the field. It is also a cool message to see and better understand what the vehicle is doing. After a successful RACE mode engagement, the function is blocked for 45 seconds. Overall I'm very impressed with the driveability improvements of the tune and the added power.

Coupled with the transmission tune, it is like buying a new vehicle. Also, the max power of the engine is achieved as soon as possible with the hot tune and maintained over a plateau as wide as possible roughly rpm. This gives a noticeable gain in the performance feeling of the engine while accelerating. FCA Eco Diesel 3.

If you're familiar with those interstates they're certainly not flat - you're either going up a hill or down with some of the grades in Central PA being pretty long if not high. Diesel Calibration. I had 3 fuel runs with the stock programming before I installed the GDE tunes. Love my Ecodiesel with the GDE tune. Most customers will recoup the cost of the tune in 25, miles or so. To determine the overall power-torque curve to meet the performance requirements, and from that point begin optimizing the calibration as a whole to provide the highest fuel economy lowest BSFC and performance. It doesn't get rid of all LHM problems but it does get rid of some of the more expensive ones in my experience and gives me more piece of mind to get out of town.
