Gaurav Bidhuri born 16 May is an Indian boxer from Mandanpur Khadar village, New Delhi who competes in the 56 kg bantamweight division. He is the only 4th Indian boxer who got a medal at World Boxing Championship. He is currently employed with Indian Railways. Gaurav Bidhuri got a wild-card entry for his debut World Championship under the Bantamweight category. After winning the quarterfinal bout against Tunisian boxer Bilel Mhamdi, he was guaranteed a medal at the competition. Gaurav started his boxing career when he was 11 years old at his father's Boxing club. It was his father's dream to represent the country in Olympics and win a medal, but due to family issues, he could not continue his boxing career.
When Gaurav Bidhuri lists out the people he credits for his bronze medal at the Boxing World Championships, he makes sure to include team physio Gaurav Ahluwalia. Over the last few months the year-old has been suffering from an injury to the Sacroiliac joint in his lower vertebrae. It's an extremely painful condition that causes severe lower back and leg pain. But after each bout our physio would treat my injury and get me prepared for my next fight," says Bidhuri. Bidhuri admits that his medal, only the fourth won by an Indian at the World Championships, would not have been possible without the constant attention given by Ahluwalia, who has been attached with the Indian team since this year. Ahluwalia was also instrumental in keeping Kavinder Bisht, a quarterfinalist in the 52kg division, in the fray even after the boxer injured his right elbow in his preliminary bout.

Gaurav Bidhuri became only the fourth Indian male boxer ever to secure himself a medal after defeating Tunisia's Bilel Mhamdi in the bantamweight 56kg quarterfinal at the Boxing World Championships in Hamburg on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Amit Panghal 49kg and Kavinder Bisht 52kg both lost their respective quarterfinal bouts. Gaurav further became only the second Indian to make the semi-final in his debut World Championships -- the only other Indian being Vikas Krishan in the edition. Besides Vikas, Vijender Singh and Shiva Thapa have been the country's other medallists at the marquee event of the sport, winning a bronze each. Among other Indians in the fray, Amit Phangal 49kg , another impressive Indian debutant in the event, bowed out in the quarterfinal stage after going down to Olympic champion and second seed Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan. Gaurav took the ring next for India and was on the offensive from the word go. He had his opponent on the ropes on more than one occasion with his combination of punches -- leaving him with a cut on his forehead in the opening round. Mhamdi then received a warning for failing to keep his head up in the second round.
