Huntsville advanced to the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs by holding off Gadsden City on Saturday. With the bases loaded and only one out and the Panthers holding on to a two-run lead the freshman reliever got Blaine Russell to hit into a double play to end the game. Lee came into the game to relieve Graham Ashcraft in the fifth inning with the game tied at and gave up only one run on three hits and struck out five. Gadsden City seemed to have all the momentum leading after four innings, but the Panthers got back in the game with four runs in the top of the fifth thanks to home runs from Ashcraft and Whit Davis that tied the game In the seventh Huntsville got aggressive on the base paths, scoring Brewer Hicklin and Ashcraft on Eli Reynold's infield hit. Davis was able to score from third after Reynolds made a dash for second to get in a run-down, giving the Panthers a lead.

Scott Brackett is a Gadsden guy through and through. The year-old is a Gadsden High graduate. He taught and coached at his alma mater for a few years before the consolidation of Emma Sansom, Gadsden and Litchfield to create Gadsden City High School in He then changed things up. Brackett accepted a job with Oxford City Schools in , helping with both baseball and football. The switch brought him a football state championship in , but leaving home was far from an easy decision. Brackett credits his move for the news Tuesday, when he was approved as Gadsden City's baseball coach at the board of education meeting. It'll be his first time leading a program.
