Frank brothers guitar company

The Frank Brothers guitar is right there in that sweet spot. On top of that, we have some guitars that are being assembled, and others at different stages of finishing, frank brothers guitar company, sanding and rough woodwork. We always have a number of guitars in each stage of the process at a time.

The company was founded in by luthiers Nick and Tim Frank and their managerial partner and older brother Jon. They are the third generation of Franks to work in music making and engineering, following grandfather Philip, first violinist with the NBC Symphony Orchestra, and father Jim, an award-winning recording engineer who worked with Peter Gabriel, Alice Cooper and the Guess Who. Building each guitar one at a time and giving it all our attention allows us to do that. Several body and neck wood options are available. This one is made with a solid mahogany back and solid Canadian maple top, with three-ply binding around the top and a thin nitro finish in translucent cherry, which has been gently aged to display some checking in the lacquer. The glued-in mahogany neck has a bound Macassar ebony fingerboard with a inch scale length.

Sweating the small stuff is in their genes: grandfather Philip was an acclaimed concert violinist and no stranger to a Stradivarius or Guarneri, while their award-winning audio engineer dad Jim worked with the likes of Alice Cooper and Peter Gabriel. With a bigleaf curly maple front and back cut from the same billet, bookmatched and then press-laminated to an arched, chambered mahogany core that tapers in thickness at the edge, the Signature Model is incredibly elegant but also time-consuming to produce. Enter its solidbody sibling, the Arcade Model. It pairs amazingly well with PAFs and Ps, and it loves higher-output pickups, too. We experimented with different body thicknesses, but that was really the best balance between the weight and the tonality we were trying to achieve. The Arcades clock in on average at about 8lb, where as the Signature Models are usually around 7. Our review model is a healthy 7. This first one is super-cool, and features a single f-hole, figured Hawaiian koa top, and a genuine mahogany body and neck. The goal was to build a guitar that could bridge the gap between solidbody and hollow-body guitar. Incorporating classic ES tones, without sacrificing the sustain and attack that our guitars have become known for. Especially in this incarnation, the Arcade Model is a real head-turner.
