There are more than stalls across the nine sites, selling everything from beer and crafted gifts to sweets and burgers. It can only mean one thing in Manchester - the city's Christmas Markets are back and an obligatory visit for thousands of people across the North West is on the cards. The annual festive event opened today November 10 and there is an impressive variety of food, drink and gift stalls spread out all across the centre's main shopping streets. The main hub of the event will be at Piccadilly Gardens once again and it has been transformed into the "Winter Gardens" for a second year. The markets will open daily until Thursday, December 21 and as a general rule of thumb the opening times for the different market zones, craft and gift stalls will be 10am to 8pm Monday to Sunday while bars serving alcohol will be open from 11am to 9pm. Cathedral Gardens will be open a little longer over the festive period, until January as it is hosting the big ice skating rink, Skate Manchester. There is also the chance to get your hands on another prized collectable mug and add it to your collection.

With a lack of a viable alternative, the "Winter Gardens" will return to Piccadilly Gardens this year and will be reinstated as the main festive hub. Although there have been assurances from the council that extra steps are being taken to protect the grassy areas this year.
