There are a lot of ways to make gil in Final Fantasy XIV—and gardening is definitely one of the more finicky routes. It takes a lot of know-how, time, patience, and lots and lots of strategy to be able to turn a profit with a garden. If you plan and plant your garden juuuust right, it can pretty much manage itself. Your botanist can help you find most of the seeds you need, and your miner can help you get Grade 3 Thanalan soil way faster than you can get it. This seems obvious, but what I really mean here is to get the right kind of garden.

There are two things that are required in order to have a successful garden: seeds and topsoil. Each bed can take 1 seed and 1 topsoil. A Deluxe Garden Patch with 8 beds will therefore hold up to 8 seeds and 8 topsoils. There are many different types of seeds, however, most of these seeds are not very useful since the plants are easy enough to gather by a botanist or obtain through a retainer. Gardening should therefore be used to crossbreed for seeds that are rare to find or even impossible to obtain otherwise. Aside from seeds you will also need topsoil when planting your garden. There are three different types of topsoils, each with 3 different grades. The higher the grade, the more potent their effects. If you can gather or afford Grade 3 soils, then there is absolutely no reason to use Grades 1 or 2 of any soil type. The first and most useful type of soil is Thanalan Topsoil which increases crossbreeding chance and will be used most of the time. The second type is Shroud Topsoil , which is used to increase yield quantity.

Once the Mirror Apples are mature you can leave them in the ff14 gardening and just continue to replant Krakka Root seeds.

Not only can you grow food items to use in your culinary crafting, but you can grow elemental shards too which can help fund your crafting exploits. Before you can start growing crops in Final Fantasy XIV you will need to have access to a housing plot, either personal or through your Free Company. If you are lucky enough to win the housing lottery and buy a housing plot of your own you just need to buy a garden plot from the market board or craft one for yourself. After you place the garden plot outside, you will need to either buy or farm yourself some seeds and topsoil to use with the garden. Buying the soil and seeds from the market is not super expensive but if you are trying to save as much Gil as possible, you will need a Botanist job to go farm the seeds and topsoil yourself. To plant your seeds, you will need to interact with one of the empty slots on the garden plot, a basic plot should have eight slots for plants to be grown in. Each slot needs both seed and topsoil to be used on it in order to grow anything. The quality of topsoil you use will improve the number of crops that you harvest when the seed is fully grown.
