When I hear about a fitness challenge that focuses on achieving more than just weight-loss goals, I start listening. The F45 8-Week Challenge has shown up on my Instagram for months; the universe was clearly trying to tell me something. After an overseas move a year ago, and therefore a complete shakeup of my entire routine and day-to-day life, I decided it was time to give the damn thing a go. The F45 8-Week Challenge is exactly that: an eight-week program that combines the company's signature minute circuit workout classes with a detailed meal plan and a lot of motivation along the way. Sure, one of the big motivators for challenges like this one is often weight loss, but the trainers at my gym — F45 Brixton in South West London — made it clear to everyone taking part that the eight weeks were about creating healthy habits through small lifestyle changes that will have a big impact on your mental and physical well-being in the long term. Going into week one, I thought I'd have to give up coffee, carbs, and all the joy in my life while training six days per week.

In fact, I don't think I've even attempted one before. I am the girl that signs up to a gym, goes hard for the first two to three weeks and then basically forgets she's being billed every month for a place she never goes. I am the girl who eats one salad, does one situp and expects to have abs by the afternoon. I say 'am' and not 'was' because I'm sure I'm still that girl. But for as long as this post- F45 8 Week Challenge feeling lasts, you bet I'm going to brag about it. Because not only have I completed the challenge, but I'm also feeling the fittest I ever have, I no longer completely hate my body and I've realised people who say 'exercise gives you more energy' aren't the complete liars I thought they were. Those in the fitness know may have heard of this Australian-born workout phenomenon, which reached the UK shores last year.

Favourite Move: Crawling with a Medicine Ball.

You've probably overheard your colleagues bragging about it, or you've seen the unbelievable before and after pictures on Instagram, or maybe one of your fitness-obsessed friends is always trying to drag you to a class - but what is F45? The group training phenomenon, which started in Australia just 7 years ago, is - quite literally - taking over the world, with hundreds of franchises across the globe. The stripped-back studios offer functional training sessions which last for 45 minutes - think high intensity circuit training that includes lifting, squatting, jumping, rowing, biking and a whole lot of burpees. Every class is different and you can opt for some high energy cardio, or a muscle-quivering strength training session. Either way, you're going to sweat. A lot.

By the end of the week, I'd decided that doing three gym classes in the week following an indulgent holiday is something to be proud of. These choices will be signaled to our partners and will not affect browsing data. What is the Meal Plan Like? The only issue with F45 is that there is no stretching or cooling down involved, so it's important to take the time to do it yourself. It's three meals and two snacks, which is pretty close to what I'd eat normally. I took pictures of myself at week 1 and 4 in shorts and a sports bra and the change is actually noticeable. Weight: Now, about the price. Favourite Move: Bosu Butt Kicks. Talking of results, this week I got back on the scales for the final time.

Thankfully, the F45 training studio in Tottenham Court Road is a friendly, inviting place where newbies are brought into the fold with open arms. But, the real change was in my fitness and my motivation. If I felt proud for surviving week one of the challenge, then I was bordering on obnoxiously pleased with myself by the end of week two. So these healthy snack ideas are invaluable. I was lifting more, getting better at burpees and even started wearing an F45 Lionheart monitor to track my progress each class a great little motivator if you find yourself wavering. Water is the king of the challenge, with everyone encouraged to drink a glass of hot water and lemon first thing in the morning, along with around three liters of water daily. The food guidance shifts every two weeks, but in general all the meal plans had a focus on whole foods and plenty of protein. I managed three of the classes a week and it was so new for my body to be forced into exerting itself, I really felt it. Stick with the program, and you will see results. Made with Live Innermost Protein the dream! Also enter: Christmas. The diet changes as the weeks go on, from an 'alkaline diet' in the first two-weeks to 'detox' the body, to a four-week high protein plan, and two weeks eating high fat, low carb meals at the end. Spoiler: I didn't die.
