In Conversation with Below Her Mouth's Erika Linder Known for exploring gender fluidity - having modelled for both men's and women's collections - is the Swedish model, actor and creative Erika Linder. The twenty-seven year old who once posed as Leonardo Dicaprio for Candy Magazine, is what we here at PIBE would describe as a powerful influencer within the media; sending out strong messages to women and men to challenge societal norms, which she voices wonderfully through her modelling art work and film. Newly released contemporary film Below Her Mouth, directed by April Mullen, sees an affair unfold between characters Dallas and Jasmine - depicted by Erika and co-star Natalie Krill - and deals with themes of repressed sexual orientation and the realities of same sex relationships in current society. Set in Toronto, Canada, Below Her Mouth gives us an intimate look into the steamy journey that develops between Dallas and Jasmine, containing explicit and raunchy content that sells the complex tale to the audience. First of all, what propelled you into the modelling industry? I was fourteen years old when I got asked to be a model.

Erika Linder in 5 words. Dreamer, philosopher, creative, motivated, focused. What's your favorite Swedish word? Even though I never say it in English. You are an actress and a model. Where lies the difference? There's a major difference. The work I put into a role for a film goes beyond months of work. Dedication and discipline is a key factor. I normally study months ahead of a project to really get into character and then I constantly work with the writer or director or the other actors on set. Modeling is hard within itself and there are a lot of challenges doing it, but for me, creatively, acting is more rewarding. You are now living in Los Angeles. What's your feeling about that city? I moved to LA 5 years ago, and prior to that been going back and forth for 2 years. I just love the energy here.

At the time, she was one of the first female models in the mainstream eye to be cast as a male model, and her career took off. Born right outside of Stockholm, Linder has delicate blonde hair and blue eyes, but when she gets in front of the camera, she hunches over with a piercing scowl. For her first gig, she was cast as a young Leonardo DiCaprio , and has gone on to do campaigns for Tom Ford and most recently Louis Vuitton. But in trying to work outside the confines of her female gender identity, Linder would only later find herself boxed into the male pronoun. So, she felt the need for a a change, and has since decided to take up acting. Five years later, the year-old talks about stirring things up and the state of gender politics in fashion. What was your style like as a kid? I will wear jeans and a t-shirt forever.

I had been taking a little break from the fashion world to stay focused on acting after I did my first film, and to be able to come back with a Vogue Paris cover was more than I could ever dream of. Working with Emmanuelle and Vogue Paris is definitely a milestone in my career.

All of the different small islands have beautiful things to offer. It makes them feel smart and safe. I've seen that you are transcending into the film industry, what made you choose that route? When I first started doing men's fashion, I wanted to do something that was different to what people were doing at the time, but to me personally, it felt very natural and comfortable. What's your favorite dream? Erika Linder : "Maybe a film about saving animals. What does Vogue Paris mean to you? My career has changed drastically in the last year and it makes you think a lot about what you do and who you are. I think that each and every one of us has their own life story that could be mysterious and interesting in its own right. Even though I never say it in English.
