Elden Ring gifts us one of the most expansive RPG sandboxes ever conceived. With vast lands to explore, custom gear to collect, and ability enhancing builds to construct — your journey promisesmystery and adventure. This guide will unpack their nuanced differences to help you make the best choice for your playstyle. From nimble archers to hulking barbarians, Elden Ring provides no shortage of archetypes to align with. Through customization, re-speccing, and equipment synergies you can transform your character far beyond their initial specialization. Alignment between your playstyle interests and starting class drastically smoothes early difficulty spikes. By confronting adversity through prayer-fueled feats rather than brute force, the Prophet channels magic in its purest manifestation. Backed by robust starting stats in faith, mind, and strength — you gain immediate access to ranged and melee attacks like Catch Flame, Heal, and your sacred seal imbued mace.

GameSpot may receive revenue from affiliate and advertising partnerships for sharing this content and from purchases through links. Elden Ring classes present the first major decision in the unforgiving game, and now that the game is officially out, you can find that out for yourself. Though you can change things up later on, the Elden Ring starting class still plays a huge role in shaping how you'll play the game. Going with a melee-focused starting class, for instance, may leave a full-blown magic build with a few displaced points by the time you reach your self-imposed level cap. Those few points may not make a significant difference in terms of viability, but in a game where showdowns can come down to the wire, every point in your favor is worth the investment.

Don't make me Kamehameha you. I think that vagabond makes a pretty good mid shield Hillary damage kind of type. What do you need help on? Look at Arcane level and you will understand who is really worth starting the game with. Full 9 points in intelligence wasted on my build. I tested a bit and enjoyed the dual wielding warrior, watched some videos but it still seems to me to be hard to take down bosses, unless you are really have alot more levels higher over it. I'm not forcing this, Just do anything to feel like lands between is your own home. C-Tier - Confessor, Warrior, Wretch. It grants resistance to "living in death" deathblight and to holy attacks. Essentially, Wretch can do anything at an average level, and the other classes will be better at some things than Wretch best case is 7 levels better as a Hero if you never go above 9 mind, 9 dex, 7 int, or 8 faith and make full use of your other starting stats and worse than Wretch at others theoretical worst case is 13 levels worse but it would generally require a very weird build to get that bad.

If you come from ds3 pick vagabond. This is especially useful early on because if you find ten swords that sell for runes each that is a free level. I choose Samurai to defeat Tree Sentinel as soon as I started playing this game, and really wanted to use that weapon, but according to people, Samurai is not suitable for it? Most are terrible, yes wretch is a decent starting point with everything at 10, but if you know the build you want most classes offer you a stat below 10 so you can specialize better, wretch is a jack of all trades even at re-spec and a huge beginning handicap, definitely not the top class imo. How to tell if I killed every boss? Essentially, Wretch can do anything at an average level, and the other classes will be better at some things than Wretch best case is 7 levels better as a Hero if you never go above 9 mind, 9 dex, 7 int, or 8 faith and make full use of your other starting stats and worse than Wretch at others theoretical worst case is 13 levels worse but it would generally require a very weird build to get that bad. My stupid brain won't let me have stats at anything but multiples of 5 so as far as I'm concerned anything but wretch is pointless. If you intend to try different builds, therefore, but intend to stick to a single character, I strongly recommend the Hero, as opposed to the commonly recommended Wretch. Mfs drew the vagabond so cool and mysterious but in game he looks so not that. Load more. Full 9 points in intelligence wasted on my build.
