Dyson vacuum pulsing

My V7 pulses, ie goes on and off, when I use the long attachment but is fine with the hand tool, dyson vacuum pulsing. The machine is only a couple of months out of warranty and I expect more from such a premium brand. Any advice before I switch to a more reliable brand?
